For many, the scent of fresh evergreen is the herald of the holidays.
Millions of American families will brave nippy weather to get a "real" Christmas tree, either a cut-your-own tree or one that was precut.
Here is our annual list of Tristate places where you can cut your own tree. Included are directions to the farms, types of trees and prices, special features, hours and phone numbers.
Most farms provide saws, but check the list before heading out without one. Some farms also offer already-cut trees and live trees that can be planted after Christmas.

The following is a list of tree farms in the Tristate where you can cut your own Christmas tree (or have one cut for you.)
OHIO
Berninger Trees and Wreaths, 1220 Stubbs Mill Road, Lebanon.
From I-71, take Ohio 48 north. Turn right on Ohio 123, then make immediate right on Stubbs Mill. From I-75, take Ohio 63 east through Lebanon. This becomes Ohio 123. Turn right on Stubbs Mill. Go 1.1 miles to farm on left.
Types: Most types of trees and handmade wreaths.
Cost: Most trees $25.

Biederman Family Tree Farm, 2913 Darrtown Road, Hamilton.
Take U.S. 27 (Colerain Avenue) north to Stillwell-Beckett Road. At traffic light, turn east to the second street, Darrtown Road. Turn north. Look for red brick mailbox.
Types: Scotch pine 5-12 feet tall.
Special features: Wagon rides and hot chocolate. Trees will be shaken, drilled for stands and bailed

Big Tree Plantation, 2544 S. Waynesville Road, Morrow.
Take I-71 to Exit 32 (Morrow), go east 1 mile to South Waynesville Road, then south ½ mile to stone entrance on left. From I-75 take Exit 29 and go east on Ohio 63 to downtown Lebanon to where it becomes Ohio 123. Cross over I-71 to Waynesville Road and turn right. Big Tree is ½ mile down on the left.

Take I-71 to Wilmington exit (Ohio 68, south). Go through Wilmington. Turn left on Ohio 134 (at Blake's Restaurant) for 2 miles. Turn right on Ireland Road for 1½ miles. Farm on left.
Types: Scotch and white pine, fir and Colorado blue spruce.

Take I-275 east to Ohio 125 east through Bethel. About 4½ miles east of Bethel, turn left on Liming-Van Thompson Road for 1½ miles. Turn right on Bolender Road. Farm on left.
Types: Colorado blue and Norway spruce; Scotch and white pines; Balsam and Douglas fir. Trees to cut up to 10 feet. Saws provided. Dug-and-burlapped trees up to 7 feet.

Take exit 180 off I-75 south to U.S. 42 west. Go about 3 miles (where four lanes end), then turn right on Longbranch Road; go 1 mile.
Types: Scotch, Virginia and white pines 6-10 feet.
Special features: Hot chocolate, cider, cookies, donuts, Christmas music, meet Maggie the St. Bernard, bonfire on weekends.
Cost: $18 and up.
